It is unfortunate that all credit card fraud and protection laws are written with the consumer in mind and not the business owner. <\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s ludicrous to imagine that a consumer has no accountability for loosing their credit card and having someone who finds make fraudulent purchases on it. But, at the same time, a business is completely accountable for accepting a stolen card. <\/p>\n<p>This list includes most of the reasons that a customer could request a chargeback for.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><strong>Chargeback Reasons:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Card holder requests a copy of the transaction receipt.<\/li>\n<li>Card holder did not authorize the transaction.<\/li>\n<li>Non-matching account number.<\/li>\n<li>Transaction was processed more than once.<\/li>\n<li>Transaction receipt was not imprinted.<\/li>\n<li>Refund not processed.<\/li>\n<li>No authorization.<\/li>\n<li>Customer never received merchandise.<\/li>\n<li>Invalid T &#038; E transaction<\/li>\n<li>Card not used within valid expiration date.<\/li>\n<li>Services not rendered.<\/li>\n<li>Error in transaction amount.<\/li>\n<li>Transaction receipt is incorrect, incomplete, or illegible.<\/li>\n<li>Transaction processed for incorrect amount.<\/li>\n<li>Product different from what was described or promised.<\/li>\n<li>Counterfeit transaction.<\/li>\n<li>Transaction not processed within Visa or MasterCard time frames.<\/li>\n<li>Failure to obtain card-holder signature.<\/li>\n<li>Signature on the card was blank.<\/li>\n<li>Signature on receipt different from card.<\/li>\n<li>Card-holder never authorized transaction.<\/li>\n<li>Card-holder claims merchant changed transaction amount without permission.<\/li>\n<li>Merchant knowingly participated in a fraudulent transaction.<\/li>\n<li>Incorrect Transaction Date.<\/li>\n<li>Card-holder claims invalid mail or telephone order transaction.<\/li>\n<li>Card-holder was denied ability to return item.<\/li>\n<li>Transaction was not canceled successfully.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Many of these reasons are overlooked by some businesses, until they receive a chargeback and are unable to fight it. The rules that are the easiest to protect against are the hardest chargebacks to fight.
